Petition to Refund the Unjust East Ramapo School District Tax Hike
The Issue
Organized by: Rockland Jewish Alliance (RJA)
To: Governor Kathy Hochul, New York State Education Department, and the East Ramapo School District
We, the undersigned residents and taxpayers of the East Ramapo Central School District, demand an immediate refund of the unlawful and unjust 4.38% tax hike imposed upon us by the New York State Education Department.
This tax increase, forced upon us by unelected bureaucrats, was justified as necessary to cover alleged financial shortfalls in the district. However, it has now been revealed that the district has a staggering $100 million surplus—a shocking discovery following years of state oversight, ANd this is just a few short months after finding a $30 million dollar surplus. This proves that the tax hike was nothing more than an illegal tax grab.
For years, the state has controlled the district’s finances through state-appointed monitors, yet they failed to identify this surplus while unjustly burdening taxpayers. Instead of holding themselves accountable for their oversight, they forced residents—many of whom already struggle under high taxes—to pay even more, under false pretenses.
We, the taxpayers, demand:
✅ An immediate and full refund of the 4.38% tax increase that was unlawfully imposed on us.
✅ A public explanation and accountability from the state monitors and education officials who failed to disclose this surplus earlier.
✅ An end to state overreach and interference that punishes taxpayers rather than serving them.
This unjustified tax increase was not just an error—it was a direct financial penalty inflicted on hardworking families based on false claims of financial distress. The people of East Ramapo deserve justice.
We will not stand by while unelected bureaucrats rob us under the guise of fiscal responsibility.
SIGN THIS PETITION to demand our money back and accountability for this failed oversight!
