Why this is important:

• These century-old maples contribute to the rural beauty of our area
• Efforts are currently underway across the province to protect and restore sugar maples that have historically lined our rural roadways
• Protecting mature trees is part of South Frontenac's Official Plan
• These trees provide nest sites for migratory birds each year
• For our family personally, they shade our house, which reduces our carbon footprint.  We also tap them for syrup each spring.

Petition:

We the undersigned agree that plans to widen all parts of Lower Round Lake Road in Battersea, Ontario, should be adjusted as needed to ensure that the mature maple trees in front of 4905 Lower Round Lake Road are not damaged or destroyed.  We understand that this may require the road not to be widened to the North at this point or not to be widened at this point at all to avoid damaging the root systems of these trees.
