Petition to Owners
Two years ago, in March of 2020, our world was rocked with the news of COVID-19. As agents, we looked to our leader, Di Mahaffey, to help us understand and navigate the uncharted, uncertain, and downright frightening territory we were about to enter into in service to our clients and for the survival of our businesses. Di was always there for us—guiding, encouraging—giving us a sense of normalcy in a world that was anything but. Under Di’s leadership, we were able to not only survive but thrive in this newly changed market and world.
Not even a year later, just as we were hitting our stride, came the devastating news that Di had been diagnosed with cancer. Her upbeat and positive attitude was contagious—once again, she was keeping our spirits high and guiding us through uncharted territory—keeping the focus away from her diagnosis and on the task at hand—a crazy fast paced market that most of us had never experienced before. Behind the scenes, agents were fearful and uncertain--What happens if something happens to Di?
A few months later, we came face to face with our greatest fear—Di’s cancer was terminal. She was given 6-18 months to live. This was a devastating blow for each of us, personally and professionally. Coupled with that devastating news, came the surprise announcement that we had broken away from KW and formed an independent brokerage. We were stunned. Absolutely stunned. Our world had been rocked with instability and uncertainty for the third time in less than 18 months.
Once again, Di illuminated our path forward. We were stunned, but because of Di, we followed. Our fearless, trusted leader. She knew this was the best move for APR and for the agents. It wasn’t easy rebranding and learning new technology in the midst of this crazy market, we did the best we could. We marched on, for Di.
Di’s death last week devastated us all, and will continue to affect us in ways we may not even realize yet. We are shaken, in shock. We are facing, yet again, uncertain, unstable, unfamiliar territory, this time without her. Many of us feel it’s the last straw, how much more can we take?
Please, we respectfully ask that the current ownership group of APR wait a period of six months before making any changes. We are hurting and need time to absorb this great loss and begin to heal. The last thing we need right now is more change, more instability, more uncertainty. We need a continuation of the leadership that is currently in place now, that we’ve come to trust, so we can all collectively catch our breath. Please preserve the company Di poured every ounce of her being into. She sacrificed so much for this company, please honor Di and give us all the time we need to grieve and process this huge loss before making any more changes.
