Petition to oppose the planning applications for Uppermill Park
Planning applications have been submitted to turn the disused toilet block in Uppermill Park into a circa 44 seater restaurant with additional seating on a decked area to give overall seating for approximately circa 75 people.
It will take over a significant chunk of the playing field meaning less green space for children to play on, an increase in litter and more traffic. When the toilet block was offered for expressions of interest we have been advised that it DID NOT include the possibility of extending any structure into the park. The plans include a glass fronted extension - not in keeping with the area. Of the existing toilet provision, circa 7, only 1 is proposed to be for the general public in the new plans. Another internal toilet is proposed for customers.
In addition a second application has been submitted to turn the stepping stones nursery into a cafe with a second floor extension. This extension will block the view for members of the public stood in the park of the several grade two listed buildings and also the home owners own views of the park and river. There will be circa 60 covers in the cafe proposals.
Both premises may apply to be licensed to serve alcohol.
Both buildings require investment and the park would benefit from accessible toilets - but these plans need scaling back to a more reasonable level that reflects the area and the impact upon local residents who live around the parks periphery.
Please sign and share this petition if you think these plans are not appropriate in their current guise for the park area and if you would like to see the public toilets reinstated.
