Petition to #Mr.Prakash Javadekar (Honorable #HRD Minster) for a law on Minimum wages for #Private #School #Teachers
At a time when private schools are paying a pittance as salary for their teachers, government's minimum wage norms cannot be applied to teaching faculty in private unaided schools. There is no legislation to specify salary scale for teachers in private schools while a mandate such as this exists for government schools. Though the judiciary in several cases have held that the school management are supposed to pay a salary to their teaching staff at par with industrial standards, the picture of reality is grim.
“Pay scales of teachers today are based on the type of board, student fee, location, experience and so on,” said Francis Joseph, director, RMinds Education, a School Development company. However, primary school teachers in a place like Mumbai get paid as low as Rs.8000 a month. Pre-primary teachers also get a raw deal as pre-school education is unregulated and there are no laws that govern their salaries. Disillusioned with abysmal pay scales, teachers are quitting the mainstream education system in droves and making a beeline for private tutorials
Sign this petition to demand a law that provides a mandatory adherence to Minimum wages for Private school teachers so that good teachers do not drop out of schools compromising the quality of our education in search for more lucrative options.
