PETITION FROM HOMEOWNERS
The Overbrook Phase II subdivision has a 30+ year history of flooding caused by water runoff from the northern boundary adjacent to federal land. The county has historical records of efforts to mitigate water runoff from as far back as 1988. As the surrounding area has developed over the years, long time residents all noted that “Everything changed when they put in the RV park” (referring to Eglin AFB RV Park affecting increased runoff).
The constant threat of potential property damage has turned our neighborhood into an “every man for himself” scenario, as each home owner tries to do what’s best for their respective properties. Long time residents have created mechanisms to just cope with it. I.e: Sandbags down the center of a garage to divert running water, trenches, sump pumps, French drains. Some have elevated their property to create a wall. For the most part, these efforts only serve to move the runoff from one property to another. By not addressing the larger hydrologic picture, no long-term success can be achieved.
Time is past due for a permanent resolution to this situation. Residents have lost thousand of dollars in property damage over the years. New residents are disappointed to find their back yards are an unusable pond. Long time residents are tired of asking for help and have succumbed to the idea that their property is just an inhospitable wetland.
We, the undersigned residents of Overbrook Drive 32547, demand a long-term solution be explored, designed, funded, and deployed to mitigate the flow of water from federal land onto Overbrook Drive.
