Hello. As some of you may know there has been a great number of issues this school year. There has been a myriad of violent acts in the school. People are fighting nearly every day and if they're not fighting they're threatening one another. There have been numerous drug incidents, along with students harassing others for nicotine and drug-related items every day.  We have a handful of bathrooms, only 2 of which are accessible to students; One bathroom for females and one for males. Each day, the same group of students repeatedly go into the bathroom, leaching one another for nicotine- leading to very uncomfortable situations. The stalls are consistently full; I cannot speak for the males, but regarding the female's bathroom, this is a huge problem for multiple reasons. It is unfair that other students have to deal with the consequences of other people's mistakes. They have locked two of our bathrooms giving us only one to use during the school day. Not only is this bathroom situation problematic, but also the amount of violence that occurs throughout the school is inappropriate and astonishing.  Quite recently, there were fights nearly daily, and they were later posted on an Instagram account, which was created to make fun of other kids. It was also utilized to post each of the fights. Our officers do their best to take care of our school, however, it is impossible for students to thrive in an environment where they are blatantly disrespectful and continue to vandalize our school despite any "consequences" they receive. When the students get disciplined, only mild actions are taken. Students are being allowed back despite the danger they pose to other students' health, as well as allowing kids with multiple offenses to return. They continue to repeat their actions because they are not receiving adequate consequences. At the risk of sounding repetitive, I must return to the problem of the bathroom. Having over 250 students use one bathroom all day is unsanitary, to begin with, but because of that, there is hardly ever any toilet paper. When this occurs we resort to asking the officers to open the other bathroom, this is not only taking time out of their day but also taking time out of our class time. In the amount of time it takes to get to the bathroom and wait in line to even be able to use it, we've already lost at least 10 minutes of class time and to go out of our way to ask the officers or the office to open the other bathroom takes another 5 minutes. It's just a lot of lost time for unnecessary reasons. This can be fixed by opening other bathrooms, increasing the severity of precautions already in place, and there are many other solutions we students would be willing to talk about. This is just a small insight into what's been going on in the Western Wayne high school and on behalf of those who genuinely want a change I ask that you sign this petition and help us get the administration's attention.
