The Albanian people of Kosovo have endured hundreds of years of oppression. From the Ottoman Empire to Serbian dictatorship which culminated in the genocide of thousands of innocent civilians. 
Ultimately Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia on 17 February 2008. Today the Republic of Kosovo has been recognized by 117 sovereign countries as an independent country.
