Why this petition matters

Started by Patria Y Vida

The Cuban Telecommunications Company should be added to the black list of Cuban entities that are prohibited from doing business with US companies.

The economic activities of ETECSA disproportionately benefit the Cuban Government and its armed forces, intelligence and security agencies or personnel to cut off freedom of expression. ETECSA must be added to the Cuba Restricted List now.

Also ETECSA disproportionately benefits the Castro dictatorship, a regime that uses profits from these businesses to oppress the Cuban people and finance its interference in Venezuela, at the expense of the Cuban people or private business in Cuba.

The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) interrupted the Internet service in the early hours of July 15 where protests were reported in Cuba. There are also reports blocking social networks. Several platforms confirm that the traffic was interrupted more information here.

Precedents

On July 11, a series of spontaneous popular protests took place throughout dozens of Cuban towns that mobilized thousands of citizens. Until hours of the afternoon, the demonstrations were repressed with blows, pepper spray and rubber bullets by police and military personnel of the regime, which left a balance of several wounded.

The premeditated blackout of the internet by ETECSA preceded the regime's order to intensify the violent repression against peaceful protesters and call for a confrontation between civilians.
