PETITION FOR ONLINE EXAMINATIONS, SPRING 22, SEGi COLLEGE PENANG.
With the rise of Covid-19 cases throughout the country, it has become relatively risky to carry out physical exams for various reasons. The SEGi College Penang's School of American Degree Program is adamant about having physical examinations although the largest contributor to clusters in Malaysia is the education sector.
Even though the school has indicated that those students who're covid positive or close contact can schedule the exam on another date, however, this is not a good solution because this means sitting for the exam much later, and we believe many students do not want to delay their exam. Hence this will lead to close contact or positive covid students to not report honestly and sneak into the exam hall just to sit for their finals on time, hiding the fact that they're probably infected which will eventually lead to a whole new cluster. Furthermore, in DEC2021 when we had 3000-5000+- cases (with the majority of students being fully vaccinated), the MID-TERMS and FINAL EXAMS were carried out online, while in MARCH 2022 when we had 12000-32000+- cases, exams were planned to conduct online.
In the survey, it can be summarised that majority of the students would like to propose an online examination mode which is already available on Blackboard. For your kind information, most of the students and lecturers are familiar with using Blackboard for mid-term tests and exams. So, it wouldn't be an issue of 'trial and error' anymore.
We hope the school respectfully hears the pleas of the students as safety is our main concern. We believe the faculty should run the final examinations completely online to ensure the integrity of the examination is upheld.
