Petition for adoption of UN declaration on the right to peace

Now in the UN body, the international codification process of the right to peace is going on. When the UN declaration of the right to peace is adopted by UN General Assembly, it paves a way for each citizen to appeal and remedy against violation of this right.

The draft of the declaration has just been adopted by UN human Rights Council in July, 2016. This draft is to be adopted by UN General Assembly this November. It indicates great many governments and citizen of the world are supporting this codification process of the right to peace.

Japanese government has taken a negative stand against the codification. But Japan constitution explicitly declare, “We recognize that all peoples of the world have the right to live in peace, free from fear and want”, which means Japan have to disseminate this right to live in peace to the world.

Therefore, we demand the Japanese government take more supportive stand when the coming UN General Assembly adopts the draft declaration on the Right to Peace:
