Petition for a Stricter Waste Management Policy, Garbage Disposal and Waste Segregation

(Movement towards a greener future)

 

 

Introduction: 

 

In our current state the Philippines is at 57th place when it comes to the dirtiest and polluted countries out of 98 in the list, this shows the poor waste management and segregation. In fact most of our country’s solid waste are biodegradable, its more than 50% and the remaining are divided into recyclables which is less than 30% and the other are residual/special waste, in short we should only be dumping about 20% of the waste that we are creating at the moment since we can compost 50% as it is biodegradable and recycling the rest. The fact that we cant do so shows how poorly manage the waste are in the Philippines. Lets be honest, most of us don’t really throw our waste in their respective bins we don’t even care sometimes if we throw our candy wrappers and other small trash in the walk way. This became a common behavior to us because we thought what could as little as candy wrapper can do, yes one might not pose any threat but if everyone of us thinks this way it would be a huge problem which is what is happening right now, this collective little problematic things that we think is alright are accumulating and we manage to accumulate an average of 21 million metric tons of waste annually, in comparison that is 840,000,000 sacks of rice considering each one contains 25 kilos, imagine the waste that we are generating because of poor management because more than half of this waste are recyclables and biodegradable in short if managed properly we could cut this waste into half. This is a problem that have a very simple and literal solution yet we can’t approach properly. 

 

Mission: 

 

The mission of this petition is to improve the waste management of the Philippines, to promote proper waste disposal and segregation. 

 

Vision: 

 

A less polluted and greener future, where we can swim in our lakes and rivers ones again and where we can walk in the streets without covering our nose because of the stench of amalgamation of plastics and biodegradable waste.
