Why this petition matters

Started by Emma Scrivener

Hello my name is Emma, i have lived in Middleton all my life. I am registered Blind and Deth in one ear. I use a Guidedog and long Kane as my mobilitey aids, with these i am able to do the activities that i enjoy, such as, going to family and friends, the gym and just going out and about meeting new people independently.

However i have recentley moved and have found that Townley street has made doing these activities more difficult.

Due to Townley Street being a junction and a busy road i am unable to cross it without the support of sighted assistance, or in some situations i have to be picked up my a family member, taken to a point past Townley Street and then continue on my walk independentley. If this is not possable then i have to either stay at home or walk fiffteen or even twentey minutes in  a different direction to get to a place safely.

This in turn has an affect on a persons independence, therefore lowering their confedence on being able to access activities within the community.

I am not only petitioning for myself but those who have talked to me who also hav disabilities that struggle to cross this road. I am awear that it is not just disabled people who struggle i have noticed parents with children and elderly people who have difficultey walking.

Therefore i am asking the community of Middleton that is my home to sighn this petition in order to gain fundding to put a pelican crossing on Townley Street.

Thankyou Emma
