Petitioning Defense Secretary Robert Gates

Petition Defense Secretary Gates for an accurate survey of Don't Ask Don't Tell

Are anti-LGBT forces working inside the Department of Defense to prevent the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?”

A ridiculous survey was just sent to 400,000 active duty and reserve members of the armed services as part of a study on the possible effects of repealing DADT. It uses derogatory terms like “homosexual” and asks biased questions like what people’s reactions would be if they had to share a tent or bathroom with someone they suspected to be gay or lesbian.

The survey is insulting, one-sided, and designed to elicit a negative response.

Sign the petition and ask Defense Secretary Robert Gates for a fair survey.

Letter to
Defense Secretary  Robert Gates
I was discouraged to see that the military authorized a troubling and problematic survey of the active duty and reserve members of the armed services as part of a study on the possible effects of repealing DADT. It uses derogatory terms like “homosexual” and asks biased questions like what people’s reactions would be if they had to share a tent or bathroom with someone they suspected to be gay or lesbian.

An accurate report necessitates a fair and balanced survey.

I urge you to reissue a survey that does not elicit one type of response over another.

The ban on allowing lesbian and gay service members from serving openly in our armed forces is greatly damaging military readiness by refusing brave and honorable Americans the opportunity to use their skills to promote our collective national security.
