This is a petition against the construction of Habitat for Humanity Townhomes near Pleasant Hill BART station (Project Application No. Y16-158, City of Walnut Creek). The project will construct 45 units consisting of 10 buildings. The units would range from one to four bedrooms, and 600 to 1,400 square feet. The signers of this petition are home owners within a few blocks of the proposed building site at 1250 Las Juntas Way, Walnut Creek, at the corner of Las Juntas Way and Roble Rd.
The signers objects to the project because it is likely to cause (1) increased traffic, and (2) increased population density in an already highly congested area around Pleasant Hill BART station. It negatively impacts the quality of life for the residents in the neighborhood.
Furthermore, the proposed small affordable/low-income townhomes are not compatible with the economic makeup of the neighborhood that has many large single family homes over 1700 square feet and valued close to $1 million. Indeed, this project is likely to significantly reduce the value of nearby homes.
Accordingly, the signers urge the City of Walnut Creek to reject the application.
