Pass House Bill 30 In Delaware Giving Basic Special Education Funding To Students In K-3

In Delaware, we operate under a unit-based education funding system. Currently, special education students receive different funding allotments based on the need. Basic Special Education unit-based funding is given to students in 4th-12th grade, but there is none for students in Kindergarten to 3rd grade. As these are the ages when many disabilities manifest in the basic category, our schools receive no extra funding to support these children. This injustice was addressed by House Bill 30 last year, sponsored by State Rep. Kim Williams. It passed the House Education Committee meeting over a year ago, but has sat in our Appropriations Committee ever since. Please pass House Bill 30 so our children with disabilities can get the support they need.
