Change Australian citizenship requirement to 8 years
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
Due to increased crime and immigration integration issues, we feel as Australian citizens it is time to increase the Australian Citizenship time frame to 8 years instead of the current 4 year residence period.
Australia is a great nation made up from people all over the planet but it's time we made the right to settle more difficult. It is not a right to become an Australian, but a privilege. Countries like Switzerland, Italy, Japan and Greece migrants can be waiting 15 years to become citizens.
By having migrants with an 8 year waiting period to become citizens it allows the value of citizenship to be taken a lot more seriously.
Benefits of doing so include:
1. Integration will play a key role (perhaps by integration programs)
2. Foreign criminals will be easier to deport (saving us a lot of money in future on foreign criminals)
3. It will make migrants not take being Australian for granted and also they will be more likely to define themselves as one.
4. This change would apply to all visa categories unless they are the partner of an Australian citizen.
Once a person is a citizen regardless of where they are born it is almost impossible to have them removed from Australia in cases of criminal convictions. Immigration must prove to be a beneficial aspect to society and not detrimental - thereby not costing taxpayers.
We call upon the Liberal Party and the Labour Party of Australia to implement these changes and demand that it is passed through by the end of 2018.
