Priya is in hospital in Perth
Jul 19, 2020 —
After weeks of severe abdominal pain, on Saturday night Priya was evacuated to a Perth Hospital at the insistence of the doctors at Christmas Island Hospital. But officials stopped her loving husband and QLD-born girls from accompanying her.
We must re-unite this family and bring them home to Biloela, where they belong. Please, will you call Immigration Minister Alan Tudge today?
Priya has endured vomiting and severe pain for over two weeks and has been hospitalised on Christmas Island several times.
Right now, she is frightened and alone as she awaits the results of a CT scan ordered by her Christmas Island doctors. With all my heart, I am hoping and praying for good news.
Christmas Island simply does not have the facilities for the tests Priya’s doctors ordered. But Border Force officials only evacuated her to Perth after doctors at Christmas Island Hospital declined to discharge her until she was taken to the mainland for treatment.
Please, will you make a polite phone call to Acting Immigration Minister Tudge today on 02 6277 7790 or 03 9887 3890?
Let Mr Tudge’s staff know that you are asking him to use his Migration Act powers to re-unite Priya with her family and bring them home to Biloela. Mr Tudge’s office will be receiving many calls, so please be polite and patient - and try again later if you can’t get through.
If Priya were home in Biloela, she could access these tests with a simple trip to nearby Rockhampton. Instead, she has suffered weeks of pain and uncertainty, followed by a 2,600km medical transfer flight and separation from her husband and daughters.
Here in Biloela, I often think about how Priya brought her curries up to the doctors at the local hospital to say thank you for the care she received after she became a Mum.
I know she would want me to say thank you again now, to her doctors at Christmas Island Hospital for doing their very best to care for her with limited resources and the doctors in Perth who are caring for her now.
To all the healthcare professionals who are doing everything they can to care for Priya and her family - thank you.
