I flew to Christmas Island - here’s the plan
Sep 5, 2019 —
I don’t have much time. I’m on Christmas Island and I need your help like never before. Can you help me find $300,000 to get Priya, Nades and the girls safely home to Biloela?
Last week, Peter Dutton had this beautiful family dragged onto a plane to Sri Lanka, a war-torn country that QLD-born Kopika and Tharunicaa have never known. But when a judge ordered him to stop, Mr Dutton forced them to an empty prison camp on Christmas Island.
I couldn’t leave this family alone and terrified in the middle of the Indian Ocean. So I scraped together $3,000 in savings and flew to Christmas Island.
The courts have stopped Mr Dutton forcing this family from Australia again - for two days.
Time is running out. But I have an idea that could turn this family’s desperate situation into a “win-win” not just for Biloela, but for country towns across Australia.
Right now, Mr Dutton is determined to go ahead with this insane plan to force this hardworking, well-integrated family from Australia to danger.
If he can’t be stopped, we’ll use the money to try to keep this family safe from the terrible dangers Tamil people face in Sri Lanka - unfair imprisonment, torture and “disappearance”. And we’ll keep fighting to get them home to Biloela.
But if Mr Morrison brings this family back home from Christmas Island to Biloela, we’ll give every last cent to charities working hard to support rural Australians doing it tough.
Mr Morrison is now saying Priya and Nades can apply to migrate from Sri Lanka Australia “like anyone else”. But the deportation orders would see them trapped and in terrible danger for up to three years - and slapped with a six figure debt to stop them ever coming home to Biloela
Things are so desperate. But yesterday, when the Border Force guards let me give Priya a huge, my heart filled with hope.
