Scientific evidence is overwhelming: Americans have NOT successfully flattened the coronavirus’ spread by exercising necessary disciplines of sheltering in place, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing. Thus, the curve predictably has escalated and needless deaths are tragically escalating toward the predicted 200,000 mark by fall (Fauci).

Thus, reopening school communities during a pandemic’s heightened spread with no coherent national plan to reduce the spread is a reckless leadership move. Such actions willfully ignore leading epidemiologists’ expertise and their recurring, explicit warnings about how the virus spreads and its fatal as well as unknown consequences.

Lincolnites therefore demand Lincoln Public Schools reverse their course to reopen schools immediately. Schools should remain closed to in-person instruction and, instead, provide quality remote instruction until communities demonstrate the necessary discipline and positive curve-flattening results needed to safely reopen schools.

We know (or should know) in no uncertain terms that schools are NOT currently equipped to support a safe environment for students, teachers, staff, and their families.
