Our Turn Omaha started this petition to Governor Pete Ricketts and

We want a bill to be passed in Omaha Nebraska securing the ability for a woman to get a safe, legal abortion! Recently, many politicians and government officials have been pushing for the reversal of Roe v Wade, we cannot let this happen. Abortion is a constitutional right. Even if you are extremely against abortion, you should not have the ability to take that right away from someone else. It’s the same idea that applies to vegan/vegetarianism. Even though most believe that eating meat/animal products is immoral they do not try to take away the right to a decision. We have learned by now that making abortions illegal does not stop them from happening. It just stops them from being safe. In Romania, abortion became illegal in 1975 and abortion related deaths went up 700%. In 1990, abortion was legalized and it went down by 420%. In the Netherlands abortion is freely available to anyone on demand, but they have some of the lowest abortion rates in the world which is roughly 6 abortions per 1,000 women, plus their abortion related death rates are very low. They do this by providing free contraceptives, having sex education classes that cover sexuality and family planning, they also teach kids properly about how to obtain and use contraceptives so they are having safe sex. People may argue that giving kids free contraceptives and teaching them proper sex education would encourage them to have more sex, but Dutch teenagers tend to have sex less frequently and starting at later ages plus their teen pregnancy rate is 9 times lower than that of the United States's.  We need to be learning from our history’s mistakes instead of repeating them. Please join our fight. We know that petitioning won’t solve all of the worlds problems but it will spread our point of view and it will allow us to use our voices. Sign our petition to create change for the greater good!
