Face it, you’ve all been to a pet store and walk by those little bowls with the betta fish in them. Or the tanks with 100 goldfish in them, half of them dead with no sand to forage in or any decor at all. Not even any hiding spots. Or even the super small tanks with really big fish in them. Do you really want to get a fish that’s unhappy or unhealthy? You might have had a goldfish in your childhood and after just a few weeks or even days they died. This is because you didn’t take care of them properly. One thing you might have done wrong is put them in maybe a half gallon bowl. At the least 1 goldfish needs a 20 gallon tank, with an extra 10 gallons per goldfish you add. If you get 3 goldfish you need at least a 60 gallon tank. For just 6-8 goldfish you need at least a 120 gallon tank. Those Petco tanks with 100 goldfish in them, those are roughly 35 gallons. Those tiny cups with the betta fish in them? They are roughly 0.13 Gallons! Petco themselves recommends at least 2.5 gallons. (Even though the best minimum is 5 gallons. If you go to youtube and look up “saving betta fish from the pet store” you’ll see how much better and happier they look with just new water! Anyway, my point is not only does Petco treat their fish badly, but it also affects their health! And you don’t want to buy an unhealthy, half dead (not to mention overpriced) fish? So, we want water changes more often and bigger tanks!
