It is crucial for our children's health and wellbeing that the Vacaville School District takes immediate action to stop students from bringing in food dyes and harmful chemicals that are in some food. Food dyes have been linked to behavioral problems and hypersensitivity reactions in children (American Academy of Pediatrics), while certain chemicals, like BPA, have been associated with harmful effects on a child's developing brain (Environmental Health Perspectives). We firmly believe that our children deserve the best, and that includes nutritious and safe meals free of potentially harmful substances. Although Vacaville did a great job with our new Student Nutrition meals, kids are still able to bring in certain foods that contain harsh chemicals and share it with their friends.
