A number of pets have been lost within the last 5 years, bicycle riders hit and the amentity of those late night sunset walks, enjoying the  view of the fields diminished.

This petition is to reduce the legal speed limit of Britton Road in Shiawasee County from 55 mph to 35 mph.

It is not safe for vehicles to be traveling at such a rapid speed where pedestrians so often are present.

The relationship between vehicle speed, accident risk and accident outcome severity is well established in traffic safety literature. Research shows that reduced speed is likely to bring about a reduction in average travel speed and have a positive impact on both the number of accidents and accident outcome severity.

Following the uproar of the hit and run of our pet, one of a dozen lost within the last few years by Britton Road citizens, we have agreed to petition for a slower speed limit. Originally, we spoke together and debated the move to a rural neighborhood fit for our families. We’ve been sitting on the thought, “those could have been children.” What if they were children?

This is a reactive approach necessary to keep members of the community safe, and inhabiting Britton Road.
