Perry Middle School Dress Code Petition #Iamnotadistraction

What a girl wears should not be a distraction. Girls are 3x more likely to get dress coded than boys and 87% of girls feel judged on their appearance and not their ability.
I feel that if what I am wearing is more important than my learning then there is a problem at the school. Perry Middle School is a place for learning and girls should not have to worry about being shamed for what they look like.
70% of young women believe sexism affects their everyday life and it is time to make a change. If someone is distracted by what we wear then THEY should be dealt with accordingly.
The law states that the rules must be gender neutral, yet most of what is in the dress code is directed toward girls.
The enforcement of these discriminatory policies teach students that if a girl dresses in a certain way she is responsible for how a boy reacts to it. We request the school board review these policies and consider how they contribute to victim blaming and distract from our education.
Please show your support by signing my petition so that together we can make a difference.
