Kavvin - started this petition to Dato' Abdul Kadir bin Abu Hashim (Director-General of PERHILITAN) and

On 29 December, PERHILITAN, the Peninsular Malaysia wildlife department, heartlessly seized four gibbons under rehabilitation for wild release from the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project (GReP) gibbon rehab centre in Pahang, Malaysia. GReP was establishment by the esteemed Gibbon Conservation Society (GCS).

Despite widespread criticisms from the Malaysian public and animal lovers around the world, PERHILITAN seized two more gibbons under rehab at the centre on 31 December.

PERHILITAN must return Daru, Daly, Betsy, Lola, Bella and Chantiq - all rescued gibbons - to the GReP as soon as possible, so that these animals can continue their rehabilitation without interruption.

By signing this petition we insist PERHILITAN - currently led by Director-General Dato' Kadir Abu Hashim - on returning the six gibbons to the GReP centre.

The GReP is a gibbon rehabilitation centre that has been approved by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). A 28 December letter authored by the Vice-Chair of the IUCN Primate Specialist Group Section on Small Apes had stated that:

"GReP has done a phenomenal job in bringing these gibbons to a stage where they are possible candidates for return to the wild. The gibbons should not be removed from GReP given how far they have come in their rehabilitation and removing them suddenly will cause psychological trauma, behavioural changes and will certainly diminish the chances of these gibbon successfully returning to the wild."

Please follow GCS on Instagram to stay updated and to take action for the six gibbons.

Remember, the GReP is a National project and it belongs to us, Malaysians. If we don't stand together now, we might not be able to save our gibbons.
