Louis Quindlen started this petition to Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees

The Laney College faculty members signing below are petitioning the Peralta CCD Board of Trustees in support of Ms. Alisa Jing-Fang Huang.  We want the Peralta Board to know that we have the utmost confidence in the integrity and character of Ms. Huang.  Ms. Huang is a highly valued member of the Laney College community, working tirelessly to support CTE programs across the campus.

In her position as Senior Staff Services Specialist for Laney’s Career and Technical Education Division, Ms. Huang has been responsible for organizing and handling millions of dollars in categorical funds for CTE departments and programs annually across the campus.  In addition to her day-to-day support of the CTE Division, she has provided critical operational grant support to 22 different departments and programs at Laney.  These grants include the Strong Workforce Program (SWP), the annual Perkins grants for departments across campus, the national grant for the National Science Foundation BEST Center, and many other grants supporting educational excellence and student success at Laney.

The suggestion that Ms. Huang may have received “preferential treatment” for overtime is simply not credible.  Ms. Huang is the only classified staff member at Laney with the knowledge, skills, and expertise to handle detailed fiscal accounting for multiple CTE grants as well as SWP quarterly fiscal reporting, invoicing, and budget tracking for dozens of SWP projects, each reported separately.  As the number of CTE grants and SWP projects at the College increased dramatically in recent years, Ms. Huang’s workload and consequent overtime increased as well.

Laney CTE faculty owe a large part of our program successes to Ms. Huang.  The programs she has supported provide access in our community to living wage jobs and entry into long-term careers.  We believe that her commitment to Laney College, faculty, students, and our local community is beyond reproach.
