The Kalamazoo farmers market has been a place for farmers, producers and customers to access fresh and local food for years. Currently through the month of May the market is open only for vendors and customers who participate an a pre order drive-thru setup.

By having a market that is only open for pre order drive-thru, we are seriously limiting customers and vendors buying and selling capacities. 

More than ever, our country and town are facing uncertainties in the food supply chain.  Food is medicine to those that appreciate it and having access is absolutely essential. 

We call on the farmer market managers, the city commissioners, parks and rec offices and any other entities involved to urgently open the farmers market to ALL essential vendors.

We believe that a market that is only open as a drive-thru is discriminatory against those that cannot market online (or have the time for it) It makes simple sales contrived and poses many more barriers to food equity and social justice.

Peoples true connection to where their food comes from starts at a farmers market table, and customer-farmer/producer relationships must remain vibrant and strong throughout this crisis.
