The Bhandwari, Deonar and Dhapa landfills are just growing in size rapidly day after day and a stop to the problem does not seem to be there.

The landfills can lead to poisonous gases, diseases, bad smell, contaminated water and so many more possible DAMAGES that we can not even think of. More than 1.50 lakh metric tonne (15,00,00,000 kg) of waste is generated every single day in India, out of which 80% of the waste is left untreated and unsegregated.

Some simple efforts such as keeping 2 dustbins in house for seperate dry and wet waste can be done. Giving them to grbage collectors separately and ensuring that our local garbage collectors keep the segregated waste separate. Making compost of the wet waste and growing beautiful plants instead of big dumps seems like a better idea, doesn't it?

If it doesn not seem as relevant to you right now, just know that at this rate, by 2030 we will have smelly, disgusting and contageous landfills of waste as big as a whole city of Bangalore. Although, if you don't want something like this to happen, then take a pledge today to segregate dry and wet waste in you home and sign the petition to motivate people around the world to take these small measures as well.
