The UK Hostel Industry is in dire straights. Facing imminent collapse, it requires urgent Government intervention and support.

We continue to play our part in helping to suppress Covid-19, keeping our doors closed to the public despite taking a devastating financial hit, because we understand and wholeheartedly support the public health reasons that forced our closure in March.

Our industry is one of the worst affected amongst accommodation providers as key aspects of our business model are simply not permitted during this pandemic. Our inability to offer guests shared dormitory rooms, communal facilities, self-catering kitchens and sociable common spaces has ripped away the very fabric of our existence.

Hostels fulfil a unique niche in the hospitality sector, providing an affordable, inclusive, sociable environment for travellers of all ages. Our industry has been both popular and viable for decades, offering a safe and welcoming base for independent travellers, families and groups to explore our beautiful country. Visitors to our often-remote locations also subsequently boost the local rural economies, who rely heavily on tourism.

This pandemic has had a disruptive effect on economies all around the world and without the option of budget accommodation, many visitors, both international and domestic, simply won’t be able to afford to travel around the United Kingdom at all.

Following our closure in March, we took great pains to do the right thing by our guests, offering them 100% refunds or a discount incentive for any deferred bookings. We have now missed an entire Summer season and subsequently hold little hope of surviving the Winter ahead.

Please do your bit to help hostels survive this pandemic and sign our petition. We simply cannot allow our beloved industry to vanish and are calling upon our government to act now. Recognition of the impact of government restrictions is crucial and further financial support is critical to our survival.
