Why this petition matters

Started by Reed Ebbinghaus

Mark A. Milley is the highest-ranking military officer in the United States Armed Forces. Today members of the National Guard and police dispersed peaceful protesters in front of the White House with tear gas and rubber bullets, just so that President Trump could take a photo in front of St. John's Episcopal Church across the street.

This attack by the Armed Forces on a nonviolent gathering of American civilians is blatantly unconstitutional and will not be tolerated by those who value an open, democratic society. Some hours after the incident, General Milley was seen on the streets of D.C. observing the situation and ironically told the press, "We took an oath of allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America" to protect First Amendment rights to the freedom of speech. Yet as his men proved on June 1, 2020, he broke that oath with his deeply autocratic order to disperse peaceful protestors.

Join us in calling for General Milley to resign from his position as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. We citizens of the United States no longer recognize his occupation of this position as legitimate. General Milley failed his duty to uphold the principles of the republic by willfully trampling upon the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

People reserve the inalienable right to protest against the state. This is not the government of the military, of the police, or of the executive branch. This is the government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, FOR THE PEOPLE.
