The Palatka Art League has maintained and occupied The historic Tilghman House for 25 years. The Palatka Art League is a community based organization dedicated to help teach art, bring awareness to our local artists and crafters, display their items and make them available for purchase, at different times of the year. All members are volunteers for this organization.
The Art League has a summer program for children ages 5-12. There is a minimal fee which defers the cost of supplies. The children do an art craft each day they attend that they can finish and take home. They are also given a small snack midway thru. The Art League also teaches classes. Watercolors, alcohol ink, clay bead making etc. Again, a minimal fee is charged for supplies. The Art League hosts an event called The Holiday House, which starts the first weekend in November and runs thru December 23, open everyday from 10-5,with the exception of being closed on Thanksgiving. Every item is handmade by one of the members and available for purchasing during the Holiday season. There is no other event like this in any nearby towns. People come from 7 counties to enjoy this event. Many will stay overnight in nearby hotels and frequent our local restaurants. The Art League donates to local food banks, sponsors  a child thru the Christian Service Center, donates to “Pink Out Putnam”(a cancer drive which stays local), they host 2 Art Labs a year, where people can come to the house and watch or participate in the craft or special talent of one of the members. An annual Tea is held each year to give the public the opportunity to enjoy an event most people never get to do. Most of  the events the Art League hosts are free of charge to the public. To remove this organization from this property would be detrimental to the local community and its surrounding areas. The Art League has invested time and money into the home itself. Not to mention that the local Florida Pest Control donated time, money, product to free the home from termites. A generous community donation to keep the Palatka Art League from being eaten out of house and home....literally!  The Art League needs each and everyone of you to speak up, write letters to the Mayor and commissioners to make sure that this property which has been the home of the Palatka Art League for 25 years continues to be their home base. The Art League could be such an asset to the plans the commissioners have for the River front area. Thank you for your support!
