Why this petition matters

Started by Sophia Shepherd

In the recent past, there have been multiple occasions of people drowning at Chatfield Reservoir. These people usually are at the swim beaches and get swept up in the high winds and the afternoon storms that roll through unexpectedly. Putting a lifeguard system in place at ALL of the swim beaches could’ve saved those lives and can save many more in the future.

There have been 2 drownings in the last month alone and something has to be done for public safety. Putting lifeguards on those beaches who are knowledgeable about the lake itself as well as the weather patterns can help us avoid losing more lives. Giving them the right tools—such as a rescue jet ski or extra flotation devices—can make those beaches safer for all.

Too many people have drowned at this lake that something drastic must be done. Rather than reacting to these tragedies as they happen, let’s make sure that preventative measures are put into place to make sure this never happens again. Please sign this petition and make our lakes and beaches safer!
