I am Siddharth Arora 'Sahar', a resident of East-Delhi, who along with a team of few friends and colleagues is trying to help COVID-19 patients by amplifying their needs of oxygen cylinders, medicines, and plasma therapy. In the last few weeks we have helped hundreds of people by identifying and verifying authentic sources of oxygen and supplying medicines to remote places. But there is something we have had a very hard time doing. That is arranging finding plasma donors.

In the first week of April, we helped a stranger who was pleading for an oxygen cylinder for his younger brother of 26 years. I, with the help of other volunteers, arranged a bed with oxygen in a Delhi Hospital and by God grace and tireless efforts of medical staff, he recovered in ten crucial days. After a few days I requested him to donate plasma for other needy Covid-19 patients in very critical condition. But to our dismay, he simply refused and turned his mobile off. This is not a stand-alone but a pattern seen in many recovered patients.

As we all know, plasma can’t be bought or manufactured. It can only be taken from a recently recovered person to be given immediately to an infected person. Every day 2 to 3 lakh people are recovering from this disease and the number is growing. These people if they donate their blood plasma can help thousands of new patients but unfortunately, most of them do not do so. They may think that donating plasma would weaken their immunity or some similar reason. The truth is every recovered patient is a future donor. Plasma donation will not weaken your immunity or your body. Rather, helping someone will make you happy and satisfied. You can be a life saver, A "Plasma Hero".

So, I request the government to make it mandatory for every recovered patient to donate blood plasma after 28 days to 3 months. As the doctors say, one recovered healthy person can donate his plasma three times. So, one person can save three lives in a month. As volunteers, we feel helpless when we see someone in need for Plasma. We can’t make it, we can’t buy it, we can only Beg for it and it disheartens all of us when we see people who have survived this crisis not coming forward to save humanity. Fighting this severe crisis cannot be a one-man show; it has to be a combined effort by medical staff, doctors, volunteers, and especially the survivors.

In summary, making it mandatory for all recovered COVID patients to donate plasma seems like the only way forward. We must not forget the help we received from complete strangers in our time of need. We must help others recover and a family to smile again.
