Today pet food standards are not based on nutrient density nor the food's ability to fight diseases. It is common knowledge now that food is medicine. So, why based pet food on energy production and digestibility, which are the basis for the today's standards. This allows pet food companies to put whatever they want in their food and thus pretty much unregulated. Now is the time for change. Stop our pets from dying from cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and more.  The solution is to change laws and standards to make pet food nutrient dense and with food that will knowingly fight diseases. No more fad foods or diets.
