There has been an increase in the use of fireworks during celebrations in South Africa. The use of fireworks has increased the risk of domestic animals running away due to the loud noises of the fireworks and impairs crime awareness as gunshots could be fired but could be mistaken for and hidden by the noise of fireworks.
