Population is a problem but not of animals but humans. On average, we’ve seen an astonishing 60% decline in the size of populations of mammals, birds, fish etc.

Then also the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) has launched a project for undertaking ‘immunocontraceptive measures’ for population management of four species of wild animals — elephant, wild boar, monkey and blue bull (Nilgai). The immunocontraceptive measures make animal less frequent in reproduction which will ultimately decrease the population of animals. This is cruelty against animals so please join me in calling MOEFCC to take this action back.

This step is taken on account of human-animal conflict. Human-animal conflict has emerged as a major challenge in managing wildlife in the country and human-elephant conflict causes the maximum number of causalities every year. According to reply tabled in Parliament on June 28, 2019, nearly 494 persons were killed by elephants last year alone. Between 2014 and March 2019, 2,398 people died in elephant attack in the country, with West Bengal accounting for maximum number of such deaths .

This action is wrong because the conflict is not due to population of elephants or others but due to overpopulation of humans, due to which we are decreasing forest area for agriculture, residential, industrial and commercial area. So the problems lies with us. We should take more sustainable ways to manage ourself and resources consumed by us. Decreasing population of animals is not and never will be the solution.
Lets plead to Save ANIMAL’S RIGHT TO REPRODUCE
