Dear Readers,

I would like to bring to your attention on the various incidents that have occurred in the past few years. Animals are being beaten up, kicked, tortured, starved, mutilated and at times even killed by a lot of human beings. Incidents like a man throwing a dog in a river, women killing 8 fifteen year old puppies are widely increasing.

However, they don't get the rightful punishment they deserve. Currently, The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA), 1960 stipulates a penalty between a mere sum of Rs.10 and Rs.50 for harming an animal. None of these actions amounting to animal cruelty, as recognized under the Section 11 (1) of the PCA, are cognizable under the 60 years old law, except of organizing fights and shooting matches that use animals.

Safety of animals is equally needed and important as the safety of a human. The animals too require equal role and space in our environment.

Therefore, let us all take some steps to make this world a better place to live for the animals. The law is outdated and needs to be amended with immediate effect. This would deter the demons from abusing an animal because of the fear of getting punished which doesn't exist right now.

Thanking you
