I feel that veterans have sacrificed so much to ensure our freedom and safety. They give up time with family, their health and sometimes make the ultimate sacrifice of their life. It is only fair that our country gives back to them for all they have given us. Returning veterans face many issues, such as, homelessness, drug addiction, and divorce. It is estimated that 51% of homeless veterans are disabled. Around 50% have mental illness, close to 70% have addiction issues. According to the National Coalition of Homeless Veterans, Around 1.4 million veterans, are considered at risk of homelessness due to poverty, lack of support networks, and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing. This bill would allow veterans receiving HUD-VA housing to continue with job training and counseling, transitioning for incarcerated veterans, support for veterans families and recently homeless veterans.
