We have been gathering signatures to present to state legislators with the end goal of getting support for a bill to open our primaries. This is an on-going effort. The greater number of signatures on this survey will impress upon members of the legislature that this issue is a serious matter for Pennsylvania voters. In Pennsylvania, independents can’t vote in the primaries.

• Over 1,000,000 Pennsylvanians are registered as independent/unaffiliated voters--and our numbers are increasing.
• Polls show independents making up over 40% of the electorate nationwide.
• Closed primaries disenfranchise Pennsylvanians.

Independents pay taxes that pay for the primaries, and cannot participate. This is a crucial round of voting that often determines who will be in office. We are one of 13 states that lock out independents...and that's not democratic!
