Everyday more and more children are being struck and sometimes killed by distracted drivers while trying to cross busy streets to enter and/or exit school buses. Why can't we simply protect our children by creating a law that demands that school bus companies and school districts map out school bus stops to only pick up children on the same side of any busy street that has a speed limit over 25 mph or does not have 100% clear visibility. It doesn't seem like a difficult task and even if it is the most difficult undertaking of their careers it is the lives of the very children that make those careers possible that they will ultimately be protecting. I think it is absolutely senseless that any child should have to be put at risk by crossing a street to enter or exit a bus when with enough thought put into bus route mapping every bus stop could be on the same side of the busy road as the child's house. I also think that parents of any children forced to cross a busy street should make it a point to reach out to the bus company and school district and demand that their child's bus stop be changed immediately. It is not worth the risk and our children's lives are too precious to not take a stand!
