To Whom It May Concern
This petition is for PennDot to add a left turn lane and arrow at the intersection of Rte 23 East and Starr Street in Phoenixville, PA.
Currently, no left turns are allowed onto Starr Street, which creates an inconvenience for residents of Phoenixville who are attempting to access the Acme shopping center. Their only recourse is to either turn left well before the intersection and navigate through crowded residential streets, or to continue East on Rte 23 and turn around at the nearest feasible point.
It also causes a headache for anyone attempting to to reach Bridge Street by way of Starr Street.
It has the potential to discourage any business/developer from utilizing the currently empty lot at the corner of Starr and Nutt, as no one would want to put a business there that could not be easily accessed.
In conclusion, a left turn lane and arrow would be incredibly beneficial to the economic, visual, and physical wellbeing of Phoenixville's residents and visitors. It would give us a safe option for accessing a major shopping center, and a major road in and out of our town (Starr Street) as well as encourage tenancy for an otherwise unoccupied and decrepit corner lot. It would also discourage illegal left hand turns, thereby assisting with traffic flow.
Recent development and growth in Phoenixville is bringing immense amounts of new traffic through these streets and roads on a daily basis, and this intersection is outdated, unsafe, dysfunctional, and inconvenient!
