Allow Transgender People in PA to Change Gender Markers By Self-Report

Transgender people in Pennsylvania face serious barriers to obtaining updated ID cards. In order to change the gender listed your state ID or driver's license, you need a provider (such as a medial doctor or social worker) to sign a form testifying that your gender identity is valid. If you don't have access to healthcare or you can't find a provider who understands trans identity, you can't update your ID.

Without accurate identification, trans people have a hard time voting, applying for jobs, renting housing, and many other basic life activities.

Transgender Pennsylvanians deserve better! Tell PennDOT to update their policy and allow anyone to change the gender marker on their ID simply by self-reporting their gender, without requiring a doctor's approval.
