PA House Bill #1818 Amendment was introduced on August 31, 2021 and would grant a minor age 14 years or older the right to consent to receive a vaccine and PARENTAL CONSENT is NOT NECESSARY “if the vaccine is recommended by the US Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices” (ACIP) which is under the CDC. CDC recommends everyone ages 5 and older get a Covid-19 Vaccine. FDA approved Pfizer BioNTech for children ages 5-11 and teens age 12-17. This bill also reads that a parent or legal guardian may not “abrogate” which means to repeal or revoke consent given by the minor. This Legislation would STRIP THE RIGHTS OF PARENTS for those 14 or older to decide what is best for their children. Every parent has the RIGHT to PROTECT their child and DECIDE if any recommended vaccines are in the best interest of their child NOT the State of Pennsylvania.

In a November 3rd letter, from Mary Gay Scanlon, she wrote 16 year olds can simply input their Zip Code on 2 different government websites or text it “ to get help making a vaccine appointment.” Presently, parental consent is needed so this information should NOT be given to any teen.

The CDC and FDA streamlined the approval process for Covid-19 vaccines for children. This legislation in PA is likely to get fast tracked as well. Time is critical.
