Addiction is a disease which is taking our children, our families and our friends from us. We need the support of the school system and the community to fight this disease. The school system must provide REAL tools required to increase drug and addiction awareness. This must include the creation of a Drug Awareness Week, an educational assembly for 9th and 12th graders, and a new position of “Drug Counselor” at the high school. Addiction in our community has reached epidemic proportions and these kids ARE doing drugs while attending the high school.  Since the beginning of this year, there have been 145 overdoses in Levittown and 14 deaths. These numbers have doubled since the same time last year: 71 overdoses with 9 deaths. This does not include Lower Makefield or Tullytown so you can only imagine what these numbers would look like if we had the information.
