Why this petition matters

Started by Julia R

Middletown Township roads are in desperate need for repair and Van Leer Ave. is at the height of this priority. With your sign of this petition, we will be one step closer to showing those in the position to make these repairs, that we, the community, are urgent in taking an a serious initiative to make this change - ASAP

The roads are crumbling and will continue to crumble if we do not fix them

Although it is considered that Pennsylvania has, objectively, some of the worst roads in the nation, together, we will make the biggest impact and power through facing one road at a time.

Additionally:

Van Leer Avenue is heavily traveled both by car, bus and students walking to Penncrest High School. As you make the right or left turn off of Route 1, you encounter huge potholes that make you swerve your car to avoid hitting them with full force. Not only are there other cars that you could hit, there are students walking along this road to school. Depending on the severity of the impact a pothole can cause bent tire rims, shock and strut issues, tire damage, and  even a completely blown tire. While hitting one minor pothole may not be an issue, hitting multiple potholes time and time again can cause driver aggravation and a rapid increase in deterioration of the potholes and road surface.

Van Leer is listed as a state maintained road and PennDot must be contacted directly in order to report the potholes. While I clicked on the email that was listed for PennDot to report a complaint, and it did not work.  I plan on calling the number 1-800-FIX ROAD this week to provide them with the information on the poor road conditions on Van Leer Avenue.

With your collective signatures, I plan to follow up with Middletown Township in the following week so they can put additional pressure on PennDot to quickly take action and fix this problem.

This is a public safety issue, not just a hole in the road.
