Salam Academy started this petition to Pembrokeshire Masjid and Islamic Centre and

(Note: our bank details have been added at the end for those who’ve expressed a wish to donate)

Salam Academy is a voluntary organisation in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire. We have been running children’s Islamic classes and activities for two years. We have a focus on community engagement and have worked with the police, local food bank, schools and other organisations. Lessons are taught by a qualified Alimah who has been teaching for nine years.

We were permitted to use the Mosque as a venue by the Trustees. However we have now been told to leave by the new Chair of Trustees, Shaykh Abdulla Mohammed Al-Samra. A new Imam has been employed and he has started a class for children. There is ample space in the Mosque for both classes. We have tried to resolve this issue by appealing to the Management but we were told to either join their classes under their leadership (thereby dissolving Salam Academy which we’ve worked hard for) or leave. The Muslim community in Pembrokeshire is a very small one. This was a perfect opportunity to increase unity and support each other. Unfortunately we are being bullied and were given just over an hour's notice to cancel our classes.

The children are heartbroken. They thoroughly enjoy their lessons and they simply can’t understand why they’re no longer allowed to use the Mosque for their class. We have always told them that the Mosque is a safe and welcoming space for everybody. They’ve seen other children going to the new class and feel devastated that they’ve been evicted through no fault of their own. Shaykh Abdulla has been told that the children are upset but it has made no difference.

We simply want to use a room in the Mosque twice a week for our lessons as was previously agreed.

As we are a voluntary organisation, our funds are limited. We are struggling to find a new venue. Please sign this petition to let the Management know that their actions are unfair, unjust, and go against Islamic teachings.

UPDATE: A few people have been asking about donating. We would be grateful for any amount. May the Almighty reward you well. Our details are:
