We want the Peel District School Board to diminish the current lottery selection system for all current MYP students wishing to attend an IB high school.

I am the proud parent of a child who currently attends the W.G. Davis Senior Public School in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP). My child wishes to continue with the program into high school, but it has recently come to my attention that in order to be admitted to an IB high school in the PDSB, my child will be placed into a lottery system despite being a current MYP student.
All children attending the IB MYP at W.G. Davis are accepted into the program on a merit basis. I believe that continued success in the IB MYP in middle school is enough reason to allow current IB MYP students to continue with the program in high school (if they so choose) without any sort of obstacle.
These students already have exposure to the IB MYP and most of them are hoping to continue with the program. By effectuating a lottery system, the PDSB is stripping away the opportunity to continue with the IB MYP from many well-deserving students.
I understand that the PDSB wishes to provide each student with an equal opportunity to enter the IB MYP. However, a lottery system is not a fair way to provide this opportunity and it is especially not fair to students currently in the program based on their own merit.
