Every year around the time of final exams, student stress reaches unhealthy levels. With rising rates of mental illness in teens, this causes an increase in the number of students struggling with depression and anxiety issues, even causing an increase in self-harm rates. There are much better ways to go about seeing if students retain the knowledge they receive in classes. One such practice that has been proposed is culminating assignments, but this practice is not used nearly as much as it should be. By switching to culminating projects or something similar we could be decreasing these levels of unhealthy stress, and hopefully prevent student self-harm.
