Buses For French Immersion Students in Peel Region

0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!

As an 8th grade student applying to secondary school, I want to urge the Peel District School Board to provide busing for students in the French Immersion program. While Peel offers busing for students who live a certain distance away, this is only for English programs. Also that English students have far more choices for  schools and can often find a suitable choice nearby, while French Immersion students are forced to travel far. The French Immersion students of our community are left with only two choices; Loyola Secondary School and Streetsville Secondary School.

It is unfair that students who live far away must take multiple public transit buses just to get to a school that offers them the chance to graduate bilingual. Being bilingual should be encouraged, rather than discouraged! Public transport has many negative impacts on our ability to get to school and learn such as increased costs and chances of being late.

As Canadians with two national languages, we need to stand together to provide equal opportunity to be able to learn both.
